June 14-17, 2013, Venice-CA, USA
On Friday we woke up very early to prepare ourselves for the photo shoot, we took the clothes we separated a night before plus some other options of shirts and jackets. The location was a big place in downtown Los Angeles, like a huge warehouse with different rooms and amazing choice of walls and backgrounds, a place specific for what we were doing. Melissa Castro was the photographer we chose for the job, she’s a good friend from Brazil that lives in the USA for many years, she knows the band and the music which it helps a lot when we do a job like this.
We spent 5 hours shooting in the different rooms at the warehouse, we tried many things with lights and special effects, I think the photos will come out great just from the little sample we saw at the camera. Very soon we will have the material to choose the best picture for the album and the best pictures for promotion.
After the shoot we went straight back to the studio to continue work on guitars. Every song is like a symphony with many different guitars sounds and moods for specific parts, we are using 5 guitar heads with 2 different cabinets plus around 20 effect pedals that are spread on the floor at the disposal of Mr. Robinson, it’s a lot of fun to record the guitars like that, you don’t know what is coming and every surprise make this album a better album, what a sound!
I have 4 songs done and some of them with leads, we are doing song by song. After we finish the guitar parts we have a break for some food and when the night comes Derrick starts his vocals. He is doing a great job, the vocals sounds very brutal and with a performance I have never seen from him, really deep and with full meaning when he screams the words, everything is at the limit, extreme energy and power.
We have names for all the songs and I will share some of them here with you all. The first song we recorded vocals for it was Strangiatto which now have the official name of “The Age of the Atheist”.
This a song I wrote inspired by the hard times we live today and how difficult is to believe in things. So many theories of conspiracies against the official reports that make your head turn with so much confusion, all religions that are pushing each other away like never before, making disagreements instead of unity and the lack of belief we have in ourselves. We have to believe in our strength as human beings and as citizens. We, as people, have the power to change everything and we are loosing this belief, becoming numb and hopeless. We are accepting too much what the media throws every day at our ears and eyes making our brain weaker. The song has the intention to be a wake up call to all of us, to create a better place to live, to at least save the planet.
We continue the guitar and vocal sagas through this week and I’ll keep you all posted with more song titles and eventually the name of the new album, also soon we will show the artwork for the cover, it’s really amazing.
Thanks for all the support and messages we are receiving here, is great to see you all together with us on this special journey. Till next report!
PS: I have to mention here, with some concern but at the same time with high hopes, all the protests that are going on in my home country, specially the town I live, São Paulo. I see that people in Brazil are tired of so much bullshit, so much corruption, violence, poverty, the justice system that is a total circus and we are the clowns, the people. We have murderers walking free on our streets, we have guilty and convicted politicians still at important places in the government, “working” like nothing is going on, they’re laughing at our faces! We have to change this but we have to do it peacefully, the protests are to build a better Brazil not to destroy it. Enough of this theater of horrors we call politics in Brazil. Muda Brasil!
